The Birder Walk

The Birder’s Route is an easy going route and is great for the whole family, both young and old.

A little bit of everything is offered including birding, hiking, photography opportunities and picnics along well-shaded spots surrounding Spruit and Kloof Dams. It should take you more or less two and a half hours.

At the end of your route, look for the large cave-like overhangs. These have formed where a harder layer of rock caps the softer underlying Clarens Formation Sandstone, and the result from a process of erosion spanning thousands of years.

Allow our guides to lead you on this two and a half kilometer walk. It will take you from the square to Van Zyl‘s bridge. Here the path splits. Head straight over the bridge, or, turn right over the bridge and immediately left, following the markers. The path converges at Le Roux Street. Follow the blue markers to Kloof Dam.

This walk is fascinating! Walk under huge sandstone overhangs, enjoy beautiful greenery and cool off under a seasonal waterfall. Head up from the square along Main Street, turn right at Van Reenen Street, left a Le Roux Street and Right at Hill Street. At the gate, pass through the turnstile and over the dam wall. Turn right at the multi-coloured arrow and left at the purplish arrow.

This is what it’s all about.
